Central College teams up with DMACC and OPEN to present Chinese course

Central College, along with Des Moines Area Community College (DMACC) in Newton, and Organization Promoting Everlasting Neighbors (OPEN), are co-sponsoring a non-academic bearing course for tourists, business travelers and students about Chinese language, history and culture. The course will be presented on four Tuesday evenings in September and October on Newton’s DMACC campus.

Leaders for the course are Chinese natives and other with extensive knowledge and experience of life and travel in China including Don and Maxine Huffman of Pella, professors emeriti of Central College; Maria Zhang, Central’s visiting Chinese scholar; and Shenstone Huang, a freshman at Pella Community High School, part-time student at Central and winner of several Chinese essay contests in the United States.

Cost for the course is $10 for all four sessions. Dates are Sept. 30, Oct. 7 and 14, from 7-9 p.m. and Oct. 21 from 6-9 p.m. The final course will include a Chinese meal and presentation about Chinese food. To pre-register, contact DMACC at 641-791-3622.
