Bank Robber Latshaw pleads guilty

Knoxville — Christian Michael Latshaw, 19, of Altoona, pled guilty to second-degree robbery this morning in Marion County District Court.

Latshaw, and fellow suspect Jack Dylan Konz, 18, were charged with first-degree robbery on Feb. 21.

According to court documents, the duo walked into the bank, located at 500 Oskaloosa Street, at 10:06 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 21. One of them displayed a “dangerous weapon.” The paperwork does not specify which suspect is accused of brandishing the weapon.

The Pella Police Department took the report. They, with several other agencies, including the Marion County Sheriff's Office and FBI, cooperatively investigated.

Cameras at the bank caught the suspects' images. Sheriff Jason Sandholdt said law enforcement struggled with the decision of whether or not to release the photos through local media to help identify the suspects. Ultimately, the photos were released and the decision paid off.

Court documents say that the clerk at the Super 8 Motel in Pella recognized the suspects from the clothes worn by the robbers in the surveillance photos. The duo registered for a room, which provided more information for law enforcement, including the vehicle the suspects were driving.

Law enforcement watched the hotel and waited for the suspects to return. When they returned, the suspects were arrested without incident.

Latshaw waived his pre-sentence investigation and was sentenced today by Judge Terry Rickers. He was sentenced to 10 years in prison, ordered to pay a $1,000 fine plus a 35 percent surcharge, court costs and attorney fees. Latshaw must serve a mandatory minimum of seven years in prison.

Two other drug-related charges against Latshaw were dropped.
