IGA to move State Match Play, Pella loses out

Pella — According to a release from the Iowa Golf Association, the site for the 2014 IGA Match Play Championships is being moved from Bos Landen Golf Course to the Amana Colonies Golf Course in Amana. The dates and format of both the men’s and women’s championships remain the same – Wed, June 25th thru Sat, June 28th.

Bos Landen Golf Course has been for sale since last fall and as of March 31st the ownership situation had yet to be resolved. The IGA Rules and Competitions Committee has determined it would be in the best interest of the championship to move the site.

“We have been in touch with the folks in Pella since last fall,” said Bill Dickens, IGA Executive Director. “Although we believe that the ownership situation will get resolved and the course will be open in 2014 the uncertainty at this late of a date caused the committee to act.”

The IGA is very grateful to Matt Messenger, the new PGA Director of Golf at Amana Colonies, for his help in securing the new venue on short notice. Messenger moved to Amana from Mason City Country Club this spring and was the host for several IGA events while at Mason City.

“We are very pleased to have Amana step up and agree to host,” said Mike Pape, Chairman of the IGA Rules & Competitions Committee. “The Amana course is similar to Bos Landen – lots of trees and elevation changes throughout – so it was nice to keep that consistent.”

Amana Colonies Golf Course hosted the 2002 and 2007 IGA Four-Ball Championships.
