The Mango Tree opens tomorrow in Pella

Pella — The Mango Tree, Pella’s very own mission-based frozen yogurt shop, opens tomorrow, April 22, at 2 p.m. Located at 720 Main Street, this one of a kind self-serve store is a ministry of Many Hands for Haiti, with all profits going to Haiti.

Tomorrow’s opening will highlight eight different frozen yogurt flavors, including nondairy, gluten-free, nonfat, low-fat, and no sugar added options. Sea salt caramel pretzel, mango sorbet, and strawberry sensations are just three of the flavors available. The Mango Tree also hosts a full toppings bar with over 40 different options, including fresh fruit, cereal, bobas, candy, and even homemade Dutch letters!

Liz Clarke, native of Clinton, Iowa, serves as the store manager and only paid employee of the store. Clarke says, “The thing that I’m most amazed with is how each little piece of this puzzle has come together. From people helping with the build out to the volunteers who stepped up without being asked, it’s all been God. We couldn’t do it without Him orchestrating this whole ordeal. I’m excited to be able to share that with the community.”

Other than Clarke, the rest of the store will be run by volunteers. So far, The Mango Tree has 35 volunteers lined up to work in the store, ranging in age from 13 to 70+ years of age. Each volunteer can earn free frozen yogurt or points towards a trip to Haiti for each hour worked at the shop.

Marketing Manager Lindsey Klyn commented, “We’ve really strived to create an atmosphere unlike any other yogurt shop. We want this to be a place that’s fun to volunteer, but we also want this to be a store where people can see Christ as soon as they step in the door.”

The Mango Tree will be open Tuesdays-Thursdays from 2-10 pm, Fridays from 2-11 pm, Saturdays from 11-11 pm, and Sunday from 3-9 pm. They will be closed on Mondays. For more information, check out their facebook page or follow them on twitter.
