Centerville woman charged with ID theft, forgery

CENTERVILLE — On Dec. 13 the Centerville Police Department arrested Tabatha Kay Kuehl, 26, at the Centerville Law Center. Kuehl was charged with identity theft and credit card forgery, both charges being aggravated misdemeanors, according to a Centerville Police Department press release issued Monday, Dec. 16.

The charges stem from an investigation that began in September after a local business reported numerous complaints from customers claiming their credit cards had been used without their permission. During the investigation officers learned that Kuehl, an employee of the local business, was using the customer’s names and credit card information for her own personal gain. Officers were able to identify victims from Iowa, South Dakota, Minnesota and Virginia. Kuehl was later released from the Appanoose County Jail after posting bond.

The Centerville Police Department would like to remind all citizens to be alert for suspicious activity in regards to their bank account and credit card information. If you see unauthorized activities notify your bank immediately and contact your local law enforcement.

Assisting the Centerville Police Department with this investigation was the Appanoose County Attorney’s Office and the Waukee Police Department.

A criminal charge is merely an accusation and the defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty in a court of law.
