A feast of sight and sound

OSKALOOSA — People were treated to a Medieval Feast this weekend at the Madrigal Dinner.

The Oskaloosa High School Madrigal Singers teamed up with the Chamber Orchestra, Concert Choir and Chamber Choir to produce a dinner and a show for the public on Friday and Saturday night and at 1 p.m. on Sunday.

The event is an annual fund-raiser to finance future choir and orchestra trips, OHS Choir Director Chris Weinreich said.

Weinreich was pleased with the Madrigal Dinner performances.

“Fantastic,” he said. “All three shows were sold out.”

Weinreich also was pleased with the audience interaction with the students. The students perform music and skits. The King and Queen were crowned during the dinner. Brett Ewing was crowned King and Alex Foster was crowned Queen, he said.

“The crowd has been enthusiastic,” he said. “The majority of the people have been to this event before.”

As of Sunday, Weinreich said about 230 people have registered for the event — about 110 people per performance.

Weinreich said the community really supports the event. The Madrigal Dinner started out 10 years ago as one show with a handful of students and about 60 people dinning. Now, it is over three nights with 330 people in attendance.
