NWS: Rainfall tops 2013 totals in many areas

OTTUMWA — How different is this year's rainfall from 2012? Much of the area has already received more precipitation in the first six months of the year than it did in all of last year.

The National Weather Service in Des Moines says 18 of the 48 counties in its area have already, in the 168 days of 2013, exceeded their 2012 precipitation totals.

And there may be more. The totals reflect the official measurements at the measuring stations throughout the area. Thunderstorms in other parts of those counties may well have dropped more rain than the official stations recorded.
