Nice forecast for week's start, but swift decline follows

OTTUMWA — Well, southeast Iowa, at least we had a nice weekend.

The stop-and-start spring of 2013 continues this week, with highs in the upper 70s and lower 80s on Monday and Tuesday, but the area will see temperatures return to the 40s by late in the week. Add in a chance of rain every single day this week, and there's the potential for a soggy, cold time ahead.

The good news, such as it is, is that there's little chance of severe weather. Not a zero chance, but low enough that any severe storms would be something of a surprise.

The National Weather Service forecast is really a tale of two weeks. Monday and Tuesday will both clock in well above the average for this time of year, which is 67-68 degrees. Wednesday will be almost normal, albeit with a chance of thunderstorms. Thursday and Friday will be about 20 degrees below normal.
