Kansas man injured at Lake Rathbun

OTTUMWA — Authorities say a Kansas man was hurt Thursday in a jet ski crash on Lake Rathbun.

The Appanoose County Sheriff's Department says Scott Flanary, 35, of Wichita, Kan., was on the jet ski when he lost control near the Southfork area of the lake. Flanary hit his head on the jet ski and temporarily lost consciousness.

Family and friends were able to quickly retrieve Flanary and take him by boat to a nearby ramp. Emergency personnel were waiting to help treat him.

Flanary was taken by helicopter to a Des Moines hospital for examination and treatment. He was in stable condition at the time of transport.

Authorities emphasize Flanary was wearing a life vest at the time of the accident.
