DES MOINES —
It's hard to think about it now, with temperatures struggling to break the freezing mark and who knows how much snow still to come, but it won't really be that long before we're into a different kind of weather concern altogether.
After all, last year's first tornado hit Iowa in mid-April.
The National Weather Service's Des Moines office has released its initial list of storm spotter training sessions. Two sessions are scheduled in this area, though the list will be updated as locations and dates are confirmed.
The first of the local sessions is scheduled for April 2 in Ottumwa. The session will be at Indian Hills Community College.
Knoxville also has a session scheduled. Set for April 11, the session takes place at Marion County Public Health on Lincoln Street.
Both of the local sessions come at the tail end of the current schedule, which begins Feb. 26 in Des Moines. An advanced class is offered April 11 in Ankeny. Attendees for that session must first attend the basic session.
