OSKALOOSA — The Iowa Barnstormers are back in town for their preseason football camp.

The Arena Football League team held its second practice Sunday at the William Penn University Penn Activities Center and appeared at Penn Central Mall for the community welcome ceremony. The Barnstormers will be in Oskaloosa from Friday, March 1 through Thursday, March 21.

After a sit-down dinner Sunday evening, the team appeared for an autograph signing session with local fans. Also, local dignitaries welcomed the team to Oskaloosa.

Those speaking at Sunday’s event included Oskaloosa Mayor Dave Krutzfeldt.

“It is truly my pleasure to welcome the Barnstormers back to Oskaloosa for their two-week training camp,” said Krutzfeldt, who noted the team’s community involvement when they were in Oskaloosa in 2012.

Sherri Taylor, vice president of advancement at Penn, as well as Dr. Ann Fields, president of William Penn University, spoke at Sunday’s event. Fields spoke of the team’s community involvement in 2012.

Iowa Barnstormers President/Owner Jeff Lamberti, as well as General Manager/Owner John Pettit and Head Coach Mike Hohensee, also spoke at Sunday’s event. They talked of feeling welcome in Oskaloosa.

“We really didn’t have much doubt about wanting to come back again for the second year,” said Lamberti.

The team will be busy with football practice during the day, but at night, the players will appear at a variety of public and private community events.

The Barnstormers have an appearance open to the public at the Oskaloosa Christian School on Tuesday, March 5, from 5 to 7:30 p.m. Their next event open to the public will be an event on Tuesday, March 12, from  4 to 6 p.m. where they will work on a Habitat For Humanity house and then have a spaghetti dinner at Central United Methodist Church. They also will appear on Thursday, March 14, at the Peppertree.
