Trial set for woman accused of attempted murder

Former Centerville resident allegedly tried to kill her baby on two occasions

Ottumwa Courier

CENTERVILLE — A jury trial has been set in the case of an Ohio woman who allegedly tried to kill her baby in Centerville three years ago.

Kristina Marie Kennedy-Maroney, 23, of Hicksville, Ohio, was charged with two counts of attempted murder, each a Class B felony, and with two counts of child endangerment, each an aggravated misdemeanor.

Her pre-trial conference is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. Dec. 18, and her jury trial is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Jan. 2, 2013.

The charges stem from an investigation by the Centerville Police Department that began last January. As part of the investigation, officers learned that in September 2009, Kennedy-Maroney allegedly attempted to kill her 5-6 month old child on two separate occasions while living in Centerville.

Kennedy-Maroney told a Hicksville (Ohio) Police Department investigator that she held the child’s face underwater in the bathtub of the apartment for approximately three seconds.

She also said that on a separate occasion she held a pillow over the child’s face for approximately 10 seconds.

She told the investigator that she attempted to kill the child because it would not stop crying and because her fiancé would not help her with the child.

Kennedy-Maroney pleaded not guilty to the charges on Friday.
