Air Force Academy Music Director performs at Vriendschap Village
Independent Living Resident Lois Galema, celebrated her birthday June 3rd. To help her celebrate, her son Joseph Galema, gave a special concert for her friends and neighbors at Vriendschap Village. Dr.Galema, current Music Director and Academy Organist at the United States Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs, Colorado, performed his repertoire of organ hymn arrangements, to the delight of residents. Each summer, Dr. Galema spends time in Pella with his mother and is gracious enough to share his musical talents with Vriendschap Village. Always eager for musical events, residents here especially enjoy organ music and Dr.Galema’s performance is a special treat.
Galema has held the position of music director for the Cadet Chorale and The Academy Singers at the Academy since 1982. He is also an instructor at the Lamont School of Music of the University of Denver. A featured organ soloist, Galema has toured throughout the United States, England, France, Scandinavia, and the Baltic States. A new printed score of Julius Reubke’s Sonata on the 94th Psalm for Organ, edited by Galema, has recently been published by Master Music Publications, Inc. He can also be heard on two recently released recordings with The Stellar Brass and The Denver Brass.
Special events, including concerts and speaking engagements, are held at Vriendschap Village each week. All events are open to the public.
