Pulmonary Rehab Support Group at Pella Regional

Pella — Respiratory Care at Pella Regional Health Center has started a Pulmonary Rehab Support Group that will be held quarterly. The next meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Jan. 29 from 2 -4 pm and the speaker will be Dr. Do ug Kanis, Internal Medicine physician with Pella Regional discussing the doctor’s perspective on COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). The group is for people with diseases of the lung and their families. Participants learn about their disease and share ideas and solutions to their problems.

During these support group meetings guest speakers will provide ongoing patient information on various topics related to lung disease. Examples of topics include nutrition, medications and home oxygen. There will also be time for discussion for participants.

“We want to provide education and help those with lung disease in living life to its fullest,” said Evie Jones, respiratory therapist, and facilitator of the Pulmonary Rehab Support Group.

Pulmonary rehabilitation teaches people living with lung disease how to breathe easier, increase strength and build endurance. Pulmonary rehabilitation involves exercise training, nutrition counseling and education. When properly managed, people living with a lung disease do not have to avoid certain activities because they are afraid of getting short of breath.
