Pella Regional Health Center recently participated in a community engagement project to determine the health needs of the region. This project included a community health needs assessment, key informant interviews, and secondary data analysis administered by the National Rural Health Resource Center of Duluth, Minnesota.
A random stratified sample within Pella Regional Health Center’s service area was surveyed regarding the utilization of local health care services and the perception of community health.
Key findings from the assessment include:
-Access to health care rated as a primary factor for a healthy community
-Cancer, heart disease, obesity are top concerns
-Increased access to exercise/nutrition programs would make Pella a healthier place to live, work and play
-Pella Regional Health Center provides high quality services
To improve access to health care, Pella Regional plans to increase awareness of programs that help with medical expenses and improve awareness of hospital services. To promote disease prevention, Pella Regional plans to increase community education efforts. To promote health and wellness, Pella Regional plans to increase education and support.
