Dr. Thompson Iowa Board vice chair

Dr. Michael Thompson, General Surgeon at Pella Regional Health Center, has been elected to Vice Chair of the Iowa Board of Medicine after serving as Secretary since 2012.

The Iowa Board of Medicine safeguards the public health, safety and welfare by:

-Licensing qualified physicians and acupuncturists;

-Investigating complaints against physicians and acupuncturists, establishing peer review committees, taking corrective action, and monitoring those under board order;

-Operating a program for physicians and acupuncturists with an impairment; and

-Defining the scope of medical and acupuncture practices.

“I am very excited to serve the people of Iowa through this role,” said Dr. Thompson. “As a member of the Executive Committee, I will help to guide and supervise the board’s executive director, review and make recommendations to the board on budget, and recommend administrative rules, legislative proposals, and other policies.”
