Memorial Blood Dive to be held on Dec. 30

Pella — In June 2011, Megan Hoogeveen was diagnosed with Hemolytic Lymphatic Histocytosis (HLH), a condition where the body’s immune system attacks the organs.  During her courageous fight for her life, Megan used more than 200 units of blood and blood products while being treated at Blank Children’s Hospital.  Sadly, Megan was not able to overcome her illness and she passed away just a few short weeks later.

Family and Friends of Megan are grateful for the generous blood donors who made the blood donations that helped treat Megan during her final days. They would like to encourage everyone to honor Megan on what would have been her 19th birthday by donating blood at a special memorial blood drive on Friday, December 30, 2011.  The blood drive will take place from 2 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. at the Global Pavilion, 1210 Vermeer Road East in Pella.  Appointments for this blood drive are strongly encouraged.  To schedule an appointment, call 800.287.4903 or schedule online at
