Fred Bankus, 73, of Pella, was recently inducted into the Iowa Senior Games Hall of Fame. The honor was based on Bankus’ performance over the past 18 years at the event. Bankus is also part of a traveling regional softball team that completes all over the United States. This year, Bankus’ 19th year of participation at the Iowa Senior Games, was quite successful, as he picked up medals in 9 of the 10 events he participated in - including six first place medals. Bankus estimates he has won over 100 medals during his involvement with the Iowa Senior Games. He admits he competes mainly for fun, but there is still some competition in the events. Inset – Bankus holds up the clock he received during his Hall of Fame induction held recently at the Iowa Hall of Pride in Des Moines. Clint Brown/The Chronicle (Click for larger image)
