Fall Festival – 2008

The Chronicle

The Annual Fall Festival at the Pella Historical Village was a wonderful success last weekend, the weather could not have been more perfect and many people volunteered to make the Village come alive with activity. Virgil Boertje ran the steam engine; the whistle could be heard all around town. Kraig Van Kooten worked in the Blacksmith Shop and Art Meppelink and Dale Van Veldhuizen operated the Grist Mill. Joyce Van Haaften demonstrating wagon wheel rug weaving, Randy Wineland patiently demonstrated using hand tools for wood working and Gene Newman caned chairs in the Library. Susan Miller and helpers quilted near the Heritage Quilt display. Lil Terpstra and her granddaughters made gingerbread like the early Dutch in the log cabin while Milton Vos drew the attention of the guests with rope making demonstrations. Sallie De Reus did delicate harbinger embroidery, while Helen Boertje braided rugs. Bob Anderson threw pots on the potter’s wheel. The street organ provided music that added to the festive atmosphere. Pella Historical wishes to thank all the volunteers who gave of their time in the various rooms, serving lunch, selling gifts and many other tasks. A big thanks goes out to all who donated pies, cakes, coffee and money to make the event successful.
