PC, Pella Cheerleaders shine at state

The Chronicle

Pella Christian placed 5th in the Iowa State Cheerleading Championships held this past Saturday at Vet’s Auditorium in Des Moines. The squad competed against 15 teams in the 2A Cheer/Dance division. Members of the squad are Becky Boomsma, Hanna Callahan, Raquel De Graaf, Amber Duryee, Alyssa Jansen (captain), Jillian Kuyers, Leah Mills (captain), Kelsie Van Kooten (captain), Bre Van Peursem, Taylor Van Woerkom, Starlie Vermeer, Ashton Vershuure, Emily Visser, and Stacia Vos. The team is coached by Nicole Holz and Jean Van Wyk. A stunt group (Callahan, Jansen, Mills, Van Kooten, and Vos) placed 6th in the small school stunt group competition. This was the school’s first year attending the state championships sponsored by the Iowa Cheerleading Coaches Association. Pella High School also placed high, as they were awarded 6th place in the Non-Stunt/Mount Division. The Pella High Team is coached by Tammy Smith.
