Pella — To the editor,

I was in Pella Thursday morning, August 11, to visit, among other places, Jaarsma Bakery to buy some treats for my co-workers in Des Moines. I took notice of the license plates of the cars parked just on the south side of the street south of the square. There were cars from Illinois, Minnesota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Missouri, Oklahoma, and Montana. Now that’s impressive! Especially in these uncertain economic times, even for out-of-state tourists. There was one parking space left.

There are many towns in Iowa with empty parking places by their empty stores, whose Chambers of Commerce would love to have Pella’s parking problem. There is no such thing as a town of thriving businesses with a parking space right by their doors. Understand this, and be willing to walk a ways to shop in downtown Pella.
