AcaPella keeps their streak alive

Pella High School’s show choirs were well represented in the awards at the Dallas Center-Grimes Take 2 Invitational on Saturday, January 23. The Pella Middle School show choir, PellAdrenaline, under the direction of Joe Tangen, finished in 2nd place in the middle school division. Pella High School’s prep show choir, The Dutch Divas, won the prep division, and qualified for the night finals where they finished in 4th place overall. AcaPella, Pella’s varsity show choir, won class 3A during the daytime round of competition, and took home the Championship trophy during the evening finals, along with the award for Best Choreography. This makes 3 consecutive years that AcaPella has swept the class 3A and Championship trophies at Dallas Center-Grimes. The high school show choirs are under the direction of Michelle Chaplin, which just competed at State Show Choir contest in Keota on February 1, and will compete at West Liberty Stars on Stage on February 6, at the Keokuk Invitational on February 13, and at Central Lee on February 27. On February 19-20, AcaPella and the Dutch Divas will be hosting the 2nd annual Dutch Masters Invitational here at Pella High School. On Friday evening, the middle school competition will be held at the high school. On Saturday, February 20th, seventeen high school groups will take to the stage to determine who will be crowned Grand Champion. This event brings a crowd of several thousand people to Pella for the day. On March 6, AcaPella and the Dutch Divas will host their annual Cabaret, along with Chamber Choir and Select Choir from PHS. The Music Department is always in need of volunteers for these events.
