Bibles for Missions Thrift Center’s to host Grand Opening

The Grand Opening of the Bibles for Missions Thrift Center in Pella will be Thursday, February 11, from 1 – 8 p.m. The Center is located in West Pella. From Highway 163, take Exit 40 onto Washington Street, turn southeast on West 16th, go past Arby’s and find the Thrift Center at the corner of Fifield and West 16th.

Many generous individuals have donated lots of medium to high quality merchandise so now items in excellent condition, such as clothing, furniture, housewares, toys, linens, etc. are all available at very reasonable prices. Various specials will be offered throughout the Center during their Grand Opening.

Store hours are Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday & Friday from 10 – 5; Thursday from 1 – 8, and Saturday from 10 – 2.

The Bibles for Missions Thrift Centers were started in early 1992 in Holland, Michigan. Since then several other Centers have opened throughout the Midwest, with Pella’s being the 14th. The mission of the Thrift Centers is to reach people for Christ by providing funds for worldwide Bible placement. Profits from the Centers support the ministry of the Bible League. Every $4 of profit can supply one Bible.

The members of the local steering committee have designated the profits from the Pella Thrift Center to be sent to Romania. More than 20 years ago in Romania during communist rule it was illegal to even have Bibles. Communism in Romania has collapsed and in the past 10 years new churches have been planted with new members needing Bibles. Each person must complete a Bible study and publicly confess faith in Jesus before receiving a Bible.

Since November, several dedicated volunteers have had fun while working many hours to paint, build, renovate, clean, redo electrical work, sort and display merchandise, and plan for the Pella Thrift Center’s opening. Many volunteers have signed up to help run the store, and many more enthusiastic and committed volunteers are invited to join the team. This is an opportunity for individuals, churches and organizations that want to reach out into their community and also to help provide Bibles to Christians in other countries to do that without ever leaving the area.

Shopping at the Thrift Center is a unique and satisfying experience.
