Solo exhibition of work by artist Lisa M. Davis-Kovarik on display in Pella

“The New Normal,” a solo exhibition of work by artist Lisa M. Davis-Kovarik, opened at Joan Kuyper Farver gallery on June 9, 2009. The exhibition includes prints, drawings, and photographs covering a span of 20 years of Davis-Kovarik’s creative work.

“I use symbols and linear design to build my compositions and then through an additive and reductive process for both my prints and drawings I build the surface of the paper. With each vibrant layer the work changes and shows a visual journal of my conversation with God.” – Lisa Davis-Kovarik

Lisa M. Davis-Kovarik has been making prints for more than twenty years. She earned her BFA from the University of Lincoln-Nebraska in 1990 and is the recipient of several awards including Opossum Track Press Fellowship (1992), Jean R. Faulkner Award (1989, 1990) and the Thomas P. Coleman Memorial Scholarship Award (1989).

Last year Lisa moved to a farm outside of Pella, Iowa, where she is putting the finishing touches on her new studio, Ukaliqpress. Along with her own creative endeavors, Lisa works as art instructor at The Pella Community Art Center helping children explore fundamental design with mixed media in an open studio format.

“The New Normal” will be on exhibit through August 28, 2009 with an Artist Reception June 26, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. at the Joan Kuyper Farver Gallery, 712 Union Street, Pella, IA. Gallery hours are 7:30-4:30, Monday through Friday. There will be an evening artist reception on Friday, June 26th from 6:30- 8:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served.
