PCHS presents Fall Musical
“Return to the “Forbidden Planet”
uses popular 1950’s music
Pella Christian High School will be presenting their fall musical, Return to the Forbidden Planet, this Thursday and Saturday, November 6-8. The Thursday performance will be held at 7 p.m., and a pair of shows will be held Saturday, at 3 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the Vermeer Auditorium at Pella Christian High School, 300 Eagle Lane.
The new musical comedy blasts off on into a space flight (much like Star Trek), added some well-known Shakespearean dialogue, and set it against such popular 1950’s songs as “Great Balls of Fire,” “Good Vibrations,” “Teenager in Love,” and “Tell Her.” This combination of styles is a must-see musical for the entire family, filled with energetic choreography, a live band, and a number of special effects.
Director Marlo Van Peursem wanted a modern, yet fun script, for this fall’s musical.
“It’s hilarious,” said Van Peursem, “i wanted a different style for the students and audiences than the last couple of years. I wanted to challenge them. And it’s fun, just plain fun!”
The musical comedy is filled with all of your classic characters: A commanding captain (Cameron Van Kooten), a power hungry scientist and his robot (Chess Van Wyk and Michael Van Waardhuizen), a mysterious officer (Emily Van Kampen), a nerdy cook (Chris McLaughlin), the beautiful Miranda (Bre Van Peursem) and the efficient crew members (played by Maria Bouwkamp, Rachel Van Gorp, Shelby Vander Molen and Greg Vander Wal). Other crew members with solos include Brittany Arkema, Nicole Vande Zande and Kristi Van Wyk.
Students making up the live band, as characters on the stage, include Morgan Kuiper (Keyboard), Jordan Roose and Derek Fox (guitars), Justin Pastoor (Bass) and Micah Nieboer (drums). Other students in leadership positions include Sara Van Gorp (Student Director), Alyssa Jansen (Production Coordianator), Leah Mills (Dance Captain) and Joel Schut (Sound)
The show promises “upbeat, energetic dance and music,” according to Van Peursem. A two level set with special light, fog, and sound effects are also expected to enhance the show. In addition, a number of video shots are also incorporated into the show.
The cast of 43 is under the direction of Mr. Marlo Van Peursem. He is assisted by Mr. Tim Van Voorst with music and Ms. Brenna Vogel with choreography.
