---- — The Pella City Council approved a resolution, following a public hearing, last week to several items regarding the Sewer Lining Project 2013.

This resolution approves the plans, specifications, form of contract, estimate of costs, and receiving bids for the Peace/East End Sirect Sewer Lining Project 2013. In addition, the resolution awards the repair contract to Visu-Sewer, Inc for $251,677.20.

The sewer that runs from Peace to East End Street is a double trunk sewer that handles flow from a major portion of the City and delivers the flow to Lift Station #1 from East 3rd Street and Peace. One of the sewers was constructed in 1909 with the other being built in 1963. These vitrified clay pipes were inspected as part of the 10-year televising and cleaning program, They were found to have severe lateral cracking with portions of pipe beginning to deform.

The total project provides for the lining of approximately 4,892 lineal feet of 8" to 24" sanitary sewer with resin impregnated cured in place pipe (CIPP). Work also includes 27 sewer service connection re-establishments, grouting, testing and sealing. The engineering estimate for repairs on this project was $282,419.50.

City Staff recommended awarding the repair contract to Visu-Sewer, Inc. of Pewaukee, WI for $251,677.20, which includes $26,996.50 for two segments of sewer on the Hazel Street Reconstruction Project. This contract is to be completed by April 30, 2014.

This resolution also gives the Public Works Director, Denny Buyert, authorization to issue the notice to proceed once the contract, bonds, insurance certificates and appropriate permits are in proper order and fully executed.
