---- — Jacob Martin, of Pella, has been elected Wartburg College Student Body President for the 2014-15 school year alongside vice president Teri Mueller, according to a release last week.

Martin and Mueller received 51.15 percent of the vote, edging Nicole Harrison and Avery Mason by 2.3 percent.

Martin, a 2011 Pella High School graduate, won by 19 votes (after losing a bid for City Council by only 19 votes in November). Martin is currently the Student Senate’s Administrative Ombudsperson, Wartburg College Castle Singer President and a third year Political Science/Business Major.

“I am very excited for the opportunity to help lead Wartburg’s student body next year,” Martin told The Chronicle. “When we found out that we had won, there was an immediate feeling of both excitement and relief. My running mate and I worked very hard to gather the opinions of many students, and will be working primarily on solving student life issues that have come up.”

Martin looks forward to staying busy in the upcoming year.

“Among those we will be working to improve campus laundry services, advocating for in-depth explanation of tuition figures,” he said. “Addressing any other issues that may appear throughout the school year. Of course, we will also be working diligently on Outfly, Wartburg’s traditional day off in celebration of our hard work.”
