March 28 How Iowa Met Baseball
John Liepa, historian and collector, will share his collection of baseball cards and memorabilia from 5-7 pm in the Pella Public Library Meeting Room.  At 8 pm, he will give a presentation about the history and evolution of baseball with an emphasis on Iowa players who impacted the game. http://www.cityofpella.com/index.aspx?nid=190.



 

March 29 The MOMS Club of Pella 2nd Annual Easter Egg Hunt

Come join us at West Market Park for the 2nd Annual MOMS Club Easter Egg Hunt. This is a free event. To participate please bring 10 candy/fun-filled plastic eggs, (10-per child participating) to the park at 10 am.  Members of The MOMS Club of Pella will hide eggs throughout the park and the egg hunt to begin at 10:30.  At the conclusion of the egg hunt, join us for a picnic in the shelter area next to the wooded playground.  For questions, please contact Tara at 641-204-1551.





March 29-30 Federated Fellowship presents Easter drama "Cry of the Heart" 

Encounter Drama Ministries will be performing Easter drama "Cry of the Heart" on Good Friday, March 29 and Saturday, March 30 at 7 pm at Federated Fellowship Church. You won't want to miss this display of redemption and salvation during this year's Easter celebration! This is a free event. Childcare provided and recommended for children up to age 11.





March 30 Lake Red Rock presents Bird Banding

Join Nelson Hoskins, area birdwatcher and licensed bird bander, to experience what the science of bird banding is all about!  Mist nets will be set up around the Red Rock Visitor Center to capture small birds which will then be fitted with numbered leg bands to track their movements (if recaptured at some point in the future). Come check out the thrill of seeing live birds "in hand" as they are banded for future research! The activity is free of charge, and no reservations are needed.  Come anytime during the three-hour activity (7-10 am) to experience the action!  For more information, contact the Corps of Engineers office at (641) 828-7522 or (641) 628-8690.





March 30 Gene Van Wyk Memorial Run

Kickoff spring with a wonderful 5k race in beautiful Pella, IA. Registration from 8-8:45 am at Pella Christian High School, race at 9. Awards will be given. Participants receive FREE T-Shirt if registered ahead, post-race party including FREE Breakfast, snacks, chance for great door prizes, goodie bag, and access to showers. Families and strollers welcome. There are even "support laps" for those who do not want to run/walk the entire 5k. March 30 Basket Shop Open House

Spring Open House at the Basket Shop on the Molengracht.  We have a new shipment of Honduran coffee, vanilla, and pine needle baskets along with hundreds of gift baskets. Come check us out and have some coffee and cookies.  All proceeds are used to buy medicines and supplies for an annual trip to Honduras. Open 9 am- 4 pm.





April 1-5 City of Pella Spring Clean Up Week

Spring Clean-Up Week allows Pella residential solid waste customers to conveniently dispose of bulky items that do not fit inside a garbage tote. Most household, bulky waste items may be set out for collection, but there are certain items that will not be picked up during clean-up week (including but not limited to appliances, electronics, hazardous chemicals, construction materials and items banned from the landfill). Pick up of items will take place on your normal garbage collection day only. All acceptable items should be placed at curbside no later than 7 am on the scheduled collection day. Keep all items 4' away from garbage totes/recycle bins and other obstructions. If you have any questions regarding acceptable items, please call Midwest Sanitation at 628-2610.





April 2 Creation Station Preschool Registration/ Information Session

Parents and guardians of children enrolling in Creation Station need to attend this information and registration meeting at the Pella Christian Grade School Gym (216 Liberty).  Three School Registration will begin at 6:15 pm and Registration for all other Creation Station programs will begin at 7 pm.  Children need not attend. All those who sent in intention forms must attend or may forfeit their spot.  All others may register or be placed on a waiting list as space permits.  For more information, please call 641-628-8673.





April 2 Vote: Pella Community School District Facilities Plan

Don't miss your chance to cast your vote! This special vote will be held regarding the Pella Community School District's request for additional funding to support their facilities plan, which includes a new elementary school, enhanced security at existing facilities, and a career academy. April 4 Pella Business Expo

Think you know everything there is to know about local businesses and products? You might be surprised... Join us at Graham Hall Thursday, April 4 from 4-7 PM for an evening of samples, networking, and learning about the great companies, products and services new to Pella! Each booth will feature a prize drawing valued at no less than $100. And, enter to win one of two grand prizes, a $500 Pella Bucks shopping spree! Brought to you by the Pella Chamber of Commerce.

April 4 Dollar-A-Day Boys

Michigan based author Bill Jamerson will present a music and storytelling program about the Civilian Conservation Corps at the Pella Public Library at 6:30 pm. The Civilian Conservation Corps was a federal works program created in 1933 by President Franklin Roosevelt in the heart of The Great Depression. During its nine year run, 49,000 thousand young men served in Iowa camps. CCC enrollees planted over 30 million trees in Iowa, built hundreds of bridges, erected over 2,000 miles of telephone poles, helped farmers by repairing gullies, terracing hills, providing fertilizing installing fencing and building outhouses.  Jamerson's presentation includes telling stories, singing original songs and reading excerpts from his novel, Big Shoulders.





April 5 MOMS Club of Pella Open House

Learn about joining MOMS Club, a support group for stay-at-home mothers and children, while your kids play at Work System's Fun Factory! Free, from 10-11:30 am. Work Systems Rehab and Fitness is located behind Hy-Vee.





April 7 Central College presents Concerto Aria Winners Concert

Featuring the College Community Orchestra, singers Mackenzie Uhlenhopp and Ian Michel, and Nate Theissen on violin. In Douwstra Auditorium at 4 pm. Free to attend.

NOTE: NO BINGO EASTER WEEK 

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. Bingo is held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church).
