In the report from the High School, the Principal discussed getting students college ready. Also, it was noted that the 1:1 roll out plan with the laptops is going well. At the Middle School, maintenance is underway for a "facelift" to the building, and students have been issued their 1:1 laptops. In the Lincoln report, faculty is working on a Positive Behavior Intervention. They are working on re-teaching expected behavior for bus line-up, lessons on the playground, in the hallway and in the cafeteria or bathroom. Plans for the new Lincoln will include better parking and rubberized non-skid stairs with a Dutch front.
In New business, Dave Wood, representing the School Improvement Advisory Committee (SIAC) presented the annual achievement goals to the Board. Next, the Board worked to approve the agreement with Central College for the upcoming Career Acedemy by the High School. The College has approved the agreement. Another item needing review was the contract with Neumann Monson Architects. This company will do architectural services related to building improvement plans. The Board decided to approve the contract with Neumann Monson.
The board also spent some time reviewing enrollment numbers from the first day of school. It was noted that K-12 enrollment was down 3 students from the previous year, while overall enrollment (including Pre-School and Pre-K) was up 38 students.
At the end of the meeting, the Board recognized and thanked Katie Peterson for her work and wished her well in future endeavors. This meeting was Peterson's last official meeting.
The next school board meeting will be a work session on September 16, with the next regular meeting on September 30. Both meetings will be held at 4:30 p.m. in the High School Media Center.
