Twin Brothers earn pilot’s licenses on their 17th birthday

The Chronicle

Pella — Classic Aviation, Inc. is pleased to announce that Dan and Josh Fredrickson have completed their private pilot training, and now hold their private pilot’s licenses.  Dan and Josh, twin brothers from Pella, have leap day birthdays.  They took their private pilot checkrides as soon as they turned 17 or 4 ¼, however you’d like to look at it.  A student pilot is not eligible for his license unless he/she is at least 17 years of age, making this quite an accomplishment for these young men.  Dan and Josh took their checkrides with an FAA-Designated Pilot Examiner at the Pella Municipal Airport on March 1, 2013, the first day that they were eligible.  Dan and Josh completed their first solo’s as student pilots one year earlier.

Dan and Josh completed all their training at Classic Aviation, Inc. an aviation services company that provides pilot training using a seven airplane fleet at the Pella Municipal Airport.  They were often asked who would take their checkride first, and the answer was simple, Josh would.  Dan had flown first during the last lesson before the checkride, and they take turns.  Larry Vande Voort was their primary instructor and has been working with the boys since their first lesson at age 13.  Larry worked with the boys this summer to complete their tailwheel endorsement in Classic’s Citabria.  Dan and Josh have also received instruction multiple other aircraft including complex and high performance airplanes.

Dan and Josh are sons of David and Lori Fredrickson, and grandsons to Jim and Ann Fredrickson and Bill and Ann Burns.  Dan and Josh are juniors at Pella Christian High School, and have worked part time at Classic Aviation for two years.  Both Dan and Josh say they would like to pursue a career in aviation.  Congratulations to Dan and Josh on this great accomplishment!
