Chohan arrested for sex offenses

On March 7, 2014, at approximately 5:15 pm, members of the Pella Police Department arrested Nyran Chohan, 19, of Pella, and charged him with 3 counts of Sex Abuse in the 3rd degree. The charges arise from a series of events occurring in the community over the course of the past eight (8) months. In each case Chohan is accused of having sexual contact with a minor (under the age of 15 and at least 4 years his younger).

Mr. Chohan will appear before a Marion County judge over the weekend for his initial appearance. Sex abuse in the 3rd degree is a Class C felony and carries with it a period of confinement of up to 10 years and a fine of between $1,000 and $10,000 for each conviction.

The case remains under investigation, and the Pella Police Department asks that persons having information about these or any other criminal offenses occurring in the Pella community call the Pella Police Department at 641-628-4921.

The Pella Police Department wishes to remind everyone that a criminal charge is merely an accusation, and a person charged with a criminal offense is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
