Five-year-old roof at Care Facility needs replaced

Knoxville — Marion County is about to spend over $41,000 to replace the roof of the Care Facility, which was just replaced five years ago.

A contract was awarded to Anderson Roofing at Tuesday morning's regular Board of Supervisors' meeting to replace the roof. There were two other bids, one for $68,000 and one for $65,000.

The wind played a factor in some of the roof damage. County Maintenance Director Cal Stephens said there may be some funds available from the Federal Emergency Management Agency to assist with some of the costs. One area of the roof is of particular concern, though Supervisor Craig Agan recommended replacing the entire roof, as issues have been ongoing.

Board Chairman Jim Kingery said the quality of the last roofing project, completed by Comer Roofing, "didn't hold up." The County has already put thousands of dollars into minor roof repairs in the years since the last complete project.

In other Care Facility news, the sewage lagoon project is nearly complete. Final numbers on the cost of that project are not yet available.
