Traffic Enforcement Initiative continues

The Chronicle

Pella — Week two of the Pella Police Department’s traffic enforcement initiative to heighten traffic safety is complete.  Officers issued 24 speed warnings, 24 speed citations with a total of 70 traffic contacts.  There was one operating while intoxicated arrest during the week.

This week the Pella Police Department will conduct “high visibility” crosswalk and “K” turn enforcement.   The objective is to increase the safety of pedestrians and motorists within the central business district.

Each week leading up to the beginning of the 13-14 school year has its own area of concentration, or violations that are specifically targeted for enforcement.  The enforcement program and schedule is as follows:

7/29 to 8/04:  Pedestrian and “K” Turn Violations

8/05 to 8/11:  Seat Belt Violations

OWI enforcement will be emphasized throughout the four week period.
