Crew takes out courthouse phone lines

Hawkeye Paving, working on Knoxville’s downtown streetscape project, accidentally cut a Windstream telephone and information service line to the Marion County Courthouse around 11:30 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 3. This left courthouse offices are without phone, Internet and e-mail communications.

Windstream was quick to respond and is working to correct the problem. Courthouse offices remain open for business. Maintenance Director Cal Stephens said the company also hit fiber optics which carry confidential information for the court system.

Windstream was able to get things up and running by the end of the day on Thursday.

Clock Tower

In another issue, Stephens said new documents and agreements are being drawn up for the courthouse clock tower project. This includes tuck pointing and other improvements to the top level of the courthouse. The goal is to rebid the project in Spring 2014.

Bussey Memorial Hall

Utility companies that service Bussey were being contacted last week regarding the demolition of the memorial hall. Utilities should be cut off from the building this week. Stephens believes the building should start to come down the second or third week of October.

Care Facility

The shingling job at the Marion County Care Facility was nearly complete Stephens reported Oct. 3. He said the project has gone well, and the roof should be done by the end of this week.
