Pella — January 17 Families First Presents "Parenting with Love and Logic"

Free supper and childcare to all of those who wish to learn about "Becoming a Love and Logic Parent". 6 week course begins Thursday January 17 from 6-8 pm with childcare provided at Trinity Reformed Church (registration requested for childcare).  To register or for questions, contact Jodi Bokhoven, Director, at 641-628-8331 or famfirst@iowatelecom.net . January 17 Young Professionals Get Connected at Kaldera

January 19 GEMS hosts We Walk Tour Event

GEMS is sponsoring a morning for mothers and daughters. Author and speaker Sara Lynne Hilton will challenge and encourage girls to recognize that God has created them with a voice and a purpose - not just when they are grown, but right now. The morning will also feature praise and worship with Colleen Reinders and Grace Moses, a service opportunity, a "mom talk" session, giveaways and refreshments.  It is designed to open dialogue between moms and their daughters about how each one of us can be activists in the world, girls will see that even small acts can lead to lasting change. Event will take place at Pella Christian High School, Vermeer Auditorium from 9 am to 12:15 pm. Cost is $9 in advance from The Sanctuary or www.itickets.com or $12 at the door if not sold out. January 19 Bos Landen presents Murder Mystery Dinner Theater

Enjoy dinner and murder... a murder mystery! Jest Mysteries (Professional Des Moines actors) will be entertaining the crowd with "Bullets in the Bathtub". Seating opens at 5:00 pm at the Bos Landen Conference Center, must be seated by 5:45 pm. Cost of dinner and entertainment is $40/person. January 21 Bethany presents Transracial Adoption Training Seminar

Join Bethany Christian Services on the evening of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, from 6-8 PM, for a seminar for adoptive families, social workers, teachers, pastors, etc., presented by Robert O'Connor at the Vermeer Global Pavilion located at 2110 Vermeer Rd East, Pella. Robert O'Connor MSW, is an adult transracial adoptee of African-American descent who experienced multiple failed adoptions and foster care prior to being transracially adopted at the age of four. He grew up as part of one of the first generations of transracial adoptive families. He is the founder of the Transracial Adoption Network & Private Practice and is also Assistant Professor of Social Work at Metropolitan State University. Looking for a little exercise and company? You're invited to a Winter Walking Club, 8:30-9:30 AM, Tuesdays and Thursdays, beginning January 22 at Second Reformed Church in Pella.  Walk through the building.  Add stairs if you wish.  Meet in the Gathering Space, off of Liberty Street.  The coffee pot will be on. Students from across the state will participate in an all-day practice and then perform with Central's Symphonic Wind Ensemble at Central's Douwstra Auditorium at 7 pm. Free to attend.

January 26 Lake Red Rock's Red-Nose Tourney (Ice Fishing)

The 3rd Annual Red Nose Ice Fishing Tourney will raise funds for the Make-A-Wish Iowa Chapter. The tournament will be held from 9am to 1pm. Registration forms can be found at redrocklakeassociation.org.  Registration cost is $40 per two person team if completed before the day of the event. Cash prizes will be given to the top 3 finishers. If the ice isn't thick enough by January 26, the tournament will be moved back to February 9.





January 26 25th Annual Bald Eagle Day

Celebrate the comeback of the bald eagle!  This family-friendly event features live eagle and raptor shows, an environmental fair and kids' craft activities at Central College's Graham Conference Center from 10 am-5 pm.  After attending the indoor programs, take a short drive to Lake Red Rock and watch eagles flying and feeding below the Red Rock Dam!  Volunteers will be on hand with spotting scopes in the North Tailwater Recreation Area to help you spot the birds and answer questions. January 26 Families First presents Giraffes Can't Dance Book Bash

Join Families First of Pella for a morning filled with crafts, activities, and information for parents. The first 50 families with a child age 0-5 will receive a free copy of the book "Giraffes Can't Dance"! At the Pella Public Library from 10-11:30 am; funded by Marion County Empowerment and The Friends of the Pella Public Library.

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. Bingo is held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church).
