Vriendschap Village Helps Children with Parents in Prison

The Chronicle

Pella — Residents of Vriendschap Village retirement community of Pella, Iowa, recently spent their afternoons packing more than 50 backpacks to be donated to Angel Tree campers at Lake View Camp.

Children who attend Lake View Camp's Angel Tree Program have or have had at least one parent in prison. Because children attend this camp at no cost to them, Angel Tree heavily relies on donations from others.

“All of our residents were so touched to be able to help these children who attend Lake View Camp,” said Brenda Colvin, Executive Director. “They all enjoyed giving their time and reminiscing on their own childhood memories of summer.”

Residents filled backpacks with towels, combs, shampoo, soap, toothbrushes and toothpaste, notebooks, pens and cameras for the local Angel Tree Campers. In addition to the backpacks, residents also made quilts that will be given to the campers.
