Production ready to go at PHS

What do you get when you mix a family from New Jersey, some Communist secret police, and a man who thinks he is the Wright Brothers? You might get a terrible but hilarious fiasco like the one that is happening in the middle of an American embassy behind the Iron Curtain in 1966.

Don’t Drink The Water is a play by Woody Allen that will run at the Pella Community High School Auditorium on Tuesday, October 29, at 7 p.m., Thursday, October 31 at 7 p.m., and Saturday, November 2 at 7:00 pm. All seats are five dollars at the door.

Don’t Drink the Water was Woody Allen’s first show on Broadway. It is about an American tourist, a caterer by trade, and his wife and daughter who rush into the American embassy two steps ahead of the police who suspect them of spying and picture taking. The ambassador’s inept son must handle the international crisis.

“This play has something for everyone. If you like comedy or a messed up love story this is the play for you” said sound technician Matthew Sutija. With a chef with many accents, a Middle Eastern Sultan, and a priest who is now practicing magic you never know what could happen in this embassy. The New York Daily News and New York Post said, “Moved the audience to great laughter... Allen’s imagination is daffy, his sense of the ridiculous is keen and gags snap, crackle and pop.”

The Pella High production is directed by Suzanne Jones and Ashlee Whittington. Ashlee says, “It is a fun show with a hard working cast that is great to work with, even with their busy schedules”. This play will be so exciting it will make your heart sound like discotheque. The cast and crew hope to see you there.
