Lake Red Rock activities for July 11-16

There’s always something happening at Lake Red Rock! Check out these upcoming activities:

July 11-13 - Red Rock BalloonFest (check www.redrocklakeballoonfest.com for details)

July 11- Night-time Adventures- 9:00 p.m. - Playscape (meet at the North Overlook Beach - north end of parking lot)

Take a night hike and learn all about the many different nocturnal species we have here in Iowa. Also search for some constellations if the night sky is clear enough!

July 12-Let’s Go Paddling! - 9:00-11:00 a.m.-North Overlook Beach

Enjoy this chance to experience both canoeing and kayaking in the same day!

Give one or both types of watercraft a try and see how much fun paddling can be! (You must be at least 10 years old to use kayaks. Life jackets will be provided. Programs may be cancelled if inclement weather/wind conditions.)

July 12-Welcome to the Playscape!- 10:00 a.m.-Playscape (meet at the North Overlook Beach - north end of parking lot)

The Playscape is new to the area, so take this opportunity to come on out and learn about all it has to offer! From trails to prairie to playgrounds, there is plenty to keep you busy!

July 12-Playscape Craft Time - 1:00 p.m.-Playscape (meet at the North Overlook Beach - north end of parking lot)

Young artists can join in for some make-and-take creative fun at the Playscape!

Supplies will be provided - all you need to bring is your imagination and creativity!

July 13-Iowa’s Feathered Chorus - 8:00 a.m.-Playscape (meet at the North Overlook Beach - north end of parking lot)

July 13-Let’s Go Muddin’! - 1:00 p.m. - Playscape(meet at the North Overlook Beach - north end of parking lot)

Who doesn’t love to get down and dirty in the outdoors!?

In this program, go on a quest to discover all sorts of creatures which like to live in dirty environments, such as under rocks and logs, in the dirt, and in wetlands. You may get a little dirty in the process!

July 16-Hunt Like an Animal! - 10:00 a.m.- Playscape(meet at the North Overlook Beach - north end of parking lot)

Learn what features and characteristics help predators find and consume their food and how their prey has adapted to keep themselves safe.

Go on a “hunt” of your own to practice what you’ve learned.
