Positively Pella Community Calendar of Events

Pella — October 3-6 Dead Man's Curve by Robert Leonard

A provocative new play will debut on Oct. 3 when Theatre Central presents "Dead Man's Curve." Based on the book "Yellow Cab", written by Iowa author and local radio personality Robert Leonard, the piece has been adapted and directed for the stage by Ann Wilkinson. This is the fifth new piece in a series of world premiers created by Theatre Central since 2008. Please note: Strong language and adult topics. 7:30 PM each night at the Kruidenier Theatre Bldg. Tickets: $5 General Admission; $3 Students and Senior Citizens; FREE with a Central ID.





October 4 Families First Presents ''Early Childhood Parenting Made Fun'' 5 Week Class

Free class! Free meals! Free Childcare! This class teaches about how to make parenting fun for you and your little one(s). Class begins September 27 from 6-8 pm at Trinity Reformed Church. To register or for questions, contact Jodi Bokhoven, Director, at 641-628-8331 or famfirst@iowatelecom.net. Registration information can be found in the Town Crier or brought home from your child's school.





October 4 Pella Farmer's Market

Wonderful autumn harvest, baked rolls and bread, homemade pies, gluten free products, and much more. First Reformed Church Parking Lot, 605 Broadway Street. Thursdays 3-6 pm, Saturdays 9 am - noon.





October 4 Bingo Night

Have fun playing Bingo! Proceeds benefit St. Mary's Catholic Church. Children 10-17 welcome with an adult. It is held every Thursday from 6:30-9 pm at 1203 Peace Street (old church). Game prices range from $0.50 to 2.00 a game or $17 for a game packet. For more information contact Peggy Moriarity at 641-628-1549.





October 4  Tim Tripp to host Town Hall Meeting

Iowa Senate District 40 Candidate Tim Tripp will host two town hall meetings (the second on October 4) to discuss his vision of healthy communities, healthy schools, and healthy Iowans. All are welcome and encouraged to attend. Tripp is a small business owner in Pella, IA who serves on the School Board. From 7-8:30 pm at the Pella Public Library. 






October 5 Central College presents Combos Concert

Red and Blue Vocal and Instrumental Combos Concert, Cox-Snow Recital Hall, 8 pm.





October 5 Free Recycling Event

Free recycling event at Pella Cooperative Electric (2615 Washington Street)! Open to everyone, 8 am to 4 pm. Will accept household appliances, kitchen appliances, deep freezers, air conditioners, water heaters, refrigerators, microwaves, dishwashers, and other items. October 5 MOMS Club Of Pella Meet and Greet Play Date  

If you are a stay-at-home mom in the Pella area and are looking to meet other at-home mothers, stop by the MOMS Club of Pella's Meet and Greet Play Date. Our Club is celebrating it's one year anniversary this month!  Bring your kids to Caldwell Park while you meet our members and get info on our club.  We are always looking for new members. 10-11:30 am. October 6 "Little One Lost" book signing at The Sanctuary Coffeehouse

In "Little One Lost: Living With Early Infant Loss", Glenda Mathes writes of her own and others' miscarriage experiences and shows from Scripture that these littlest ones are not really lost. Meet Glenda on October 6 and then join her on the Walk to Remember on October 7. 10 am-noon at The Sanctuary Coffeehouse.





October 6 Ulrich's Drive One 4 Your School Fundraising Event

Raise money for your school by driving a new car! $20 donation to Pella Schools for test driving a new Ford or Lincoln, $10 Donation for each additional test drive in the new 2013 Ford Escape, and $5 donation for wearing school colors to the event. Benefits go to Pella Public and Pella Christian Schools. Free to participate and has historically raised over $33,000 in the past. 8 am- 5 pm. October 6 Red Rock Threshers Annual Tractor Pull

October 6 Make A Wish Meal & Auction

Come to the Pella Memorial Building for an auction, raffle, and free-will donation meal to raise money for the Make a Wish foundation. 6 pm.





October 7 Empty Cradle's "A Walk to Remember"

Empty Cradle supports and connects families who have lost a baby due to miscarriage, stillbirth or infant death. Family and friends are invited to join us for a time of remembering these precious babies. We will have a candlelight memorial service at 2 pm at the Memorial Center followed by a short walk, balloon release and refreshments. October 7 Central College presents Sunday Concert Series

Randall Foust, Upper Chapel, 4 pm with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble.





October 9 Pella Christian High School Concert

The Pella Christian High School Music Department will premier its large performing ensembles at the annual Fall Concert.  The Concert Band, Concert Choir, Cantus (boy's choir), and Solstice (girl's choir) will perform a variety of music in the school auditorium.  Concert begins at 7 pm, come and enjoy the musical gifts of our Pella Christian High School students!  Admission: Free-will offering. A bake sale will also be held before and after the concert.  The sale will begin at 6 pm with all proceeds going to the Music Department.





October 10 Faith CRC Cadet Soup Supper

Enjoy homemade chili, chicken, potato and pea soup; ham sandwiches on fresh bakery buns; pies and desserts. Free will donation accepted, funds will go towards cadet program. From 5-7 pm at Faith Church (corner of University and E 12th).

October 12-13 Lake Red Rock: Hickory Ridge Work Day

Volunteers are needed for a cleanup day at the Hickory Ridge Wilderness Campground. Come and go throughout the day as your schedule allows. Tasks will include picking up trash and removing invasive plant species. Area scouts and cadets are partnering with the Lake Association on this effort, and we would like your assistance too! October 13 Pella in Pink 2 Mile Run/Walk

Join Young Professionals for the 4th annual Pella in Pink 2 Mile Run/Walk! All Proceeds Benefit Breast Cancer Recovery at Pella Regional Health Center. Register before September 28 to be guaranteed a T-shirt! Meet at West Market Park at 8 am for stretches and T-shirt pick up. Run/ walk will take place following. Cost is $20 per person if pre-registered/ day of $25. Registration forms are available at pellahealth.org, and also available for pick up/drop off at the Pella Regional Health Center Information Desk (Main Entrance) or to the Chamber of Commerce. Early pick-up for t-shirts will be Friday October 12 from 9 am-5 pm at the Chamber of Commerce office boardroom (lower level entrance).
