June 14- July 5 FREE Meals for Kids A free lunch for children and youth will be offered in the parking lot of the Burbank Village apartments, 408 East 13th Street in Pella, every Monday through Friday, from noon to 12:30 PM, beginning on June 17.  The simple sack lunch may be eaten there or taken away to be eaten elsewhere.  All kids and youth are welcome. June 27 Thursdays in Pella: Ag in the City

Enjoy a tractor rodeo, petting zoo, gardening tips, an authentic yarn spinner exhibit, inflatables, machinery, and tons of other farm-themed events for the whole family! Food vendors and activities available from 6-8 pm with a city band concert at 8 pm. This is a huge event, don't miss out!

June 28 Movies on the Lawn hosted by Church of the Open Bible

Church of the Open Bible will be hosting monthly movies on the lawn this summer. The next movie will be "Blind Side" on Friday, June 28. All movies will be filtered by Clear Play and shown on the lawn at 809 West 1st Street in Pella, IA. The movies will start at dusk and are free to the public. Please bring your own chairs and blankets. Popcorn will be provided and pop can be purchased. In case of inclement weather, the movie will be moved inside the Fellowship Hall at the same location. June 28 Lake Red Rock presents Geocaching Basics

You are never too old for hide-and-seek! Have some fun and give geocaching a try. This sport uses the technology of GPS to hunt for caches hidden in the area. Bring your own GPS or borrow one from us for the activity, learn some of the basics and then try it on your own when you travel or in your hometown! 7 PM at Whitebreast Campground. June 29 Lake Red Rock presents River Critters: A Paddling Program with Dr. Jim Pease

Join Dr. Jim Pease, wildlife and interpretive specialist, for a paddling tour to find birds, mammals, trees, shrubs, and help you understand them and their relationship with the river. Depending on conditions, participants will paddle 1-3 hours, stopping frequently to learn what the river has to teach us. July 2 Pella Area Quilters Guild July Meeting

Pella Area Quilters Guild will hold their July meeting in room 101 at Third Reformed Church, 708 E. 13th St. Pella, IA.  This meeting is our annual summer picnic/potluck and we meet an hour earlier at 6 PM.  The title of the program that evening will be "Nifty, Gifty Quilt Ideas".  The Pella Area Quilters Guild consists of members of all quilting abilities and interests.  A time is provided for show and tell of projects.  We welcome guests or new members at every meeting. July 3 Holiday Garbage Pick-Up

Pella residents who normally have Thursday garbage pick-up will be scheduled for Wednesday pick-up instead due to the Fourth of July holiday. Please have garbage at the curb by 7 am. All other pick-up days will remain as normally scheduled.



   

July 4 Independence Day Festivities in Pella!

Schedule of Events:

· 9:30-11:30 Fishing and Art in the Park at Caldwell Park (fishing poles, bait, and art supplies provided).

· 10:00-1:00 Tours of Vermeer Windmill, Garden, and gift shop; Tours of Scholte House and Gardens (serving lemonade and cookies)

· 11:00-1:00 Pony rides in Central Park

· 11:00-1:00 Games and Activities in Central Park (Frog jumping contests, ladder golf, gunny sack races, Badminton, Bean Bag toss, dunk tank, inflatables- sponsored by Marion County Bank)

· 1:30-3:00 Parade down Franklin Street (Note change of time) from Scholte Church to West Market

· 4:00-7:00 Swimming at Aquatic Center

· 6:00-8:00 Entertainment in Central Park at Tulip Toren- City Band and Singers

· 9:30 Fireworks- lit east of Madison School

· All day: Patriotic music & food stands
