Governor Signs Bill to Benefit Hydroelectric Project

The Chronicle

Pella —

Governor Branstad held a ceremonial signing of House File 630 this week that clears the way for Missouri River Energy Services to receive a sales tax exemption on the development of a hydroelectric generating facility at the Red Rock Reservoir.

The design of the hydroelectric plant is to generate approximately 36 megawatts, with 55 megawatts capable during certain times of the year when water is plentiful.

Construction is slated to begin this year on the project and is anticipated to provide an economic stimulus to the area surrounding the Red Rock dam.

Members of Missouri River Energy Services and local government officials were on hand for the signing. Included in the picture are President of Pella Area Development Corporation Dell Collins, Marion County Supervisor Craig Agan, Pella Mayor James Mueller, Representative Greg Heartsill (R-Columbia), and Pella City Manager Mike Nardini.

Once operational in early 2016, the Red Rock hydroelectric plant will be the second largest in the state of Iowa.
