April 12: Central College presents John Rutter's "Requiem"

The Central College Community Chorus and Community Orchestra will be performing this beautiful piece at First Reformed Church (605 Broadway) at 7 pm. Free.

April 12 Central College presents Jazz Band Spring Concert

Jazz it up with Central College's Jazz Band Spring Concert. Under the direction of Gabriel Espinosa. 8 pm at the Recital Hall of Cox Snow Music Center.

April 13 Tassel Ridge Winery presents Celebration of Spring Wine Dinner

Spring is in the air! Come celebrate the flavors of spring with a three-course dinner at Tassel Ridge Winery. Begin with a mixed green salad paired with Tassel Ridge Candlelight, followed by Salmon with Arugula Sauce, Spring Risotto, and Gingered Baby Carrots paired with Tassel Ridge American Chardonnay. Guests will also enjoy various breads with herbed butter before finishing the meal with a delicious dessert, fabulously paired with a Tassel Ridge wine. Wine tasting begins at 6 pm, dinner seating at 6:30 pm.  Advance reservations required by Wednesday, April 10. Contact the Winery at 641.672.WINE (9463) for reservations. April 13-22 Friends of the Pella Public Library Book Sale

Check out the great books to purchase at the Friends of the Pella Public Library Book Sale! Held during regular library hours in the library meeting room. Books for all ages, cost is a freewill donation.

April 15 Auditions for Missoula Children's Theatre "Beauty Lou and the Country Beast"

Children ages 5-18 are invited to audition for this fun and exciting theater production! A country rendition of Beauty and the Beast. A great way for kids to try out acting and theater, no experience is necessary. At the Pella Opera House at 3:45 pm. Performances will be on Friday April 19 at 7 pm and Saturday April 20 at 10:30 am. April 17 City of Pella: Free Bundled Brush Collection Day

For City of Pella residents that utilize garbage service. Brush that will not fit in yard waste bags must be bundled using string, rope, or other biodegradable material (no wire or plastic). Brush bundles must measure less than 48 inches long, 30 inches in diameter, weigh less than 40 pounds, and must not contain branches greater than 3 inches in diameter. The City will collect the brush bundles, meeting the above requirements, at no charge, on the 3rd Wednesday of every month. Bundles must be on the curb by 7 am. Questions? Call 641-628-1601.

April 17 Hearthstone's "The Cottages" Groundbreaking Ceremony

Hearthstone, a Ministry of WesleyLife, invites the public to attend the groundbreaking ceremony for The Cottages. The groundbreaking will begin with a social gathering and refreshments at 9 am in a tent at the southeast corner of the construction site at 1742 Main St. Parking will be provided across the street at Vermeer Iowa and Pella Concrete, where shuttles will be available. The program will be starting at 9:30 am. There also will be an announcement of the winning names for the six cottages, chosen by local residents from among the 12 provinces of the Netherlands in honor of Pella's longstanding Dutch heritage and traditions. April 18 Central College presents Writers Reading with Brian Turner

Poet Brian Turner reads from his work.  Mr. Turner is the author of two poetry collections, Phantom Noise and Here, Bullet, which won the 2005 Beatrice Hawley Award, the New York Times "Editor's Choice" selection, the 2006 Pen Center USA "Best in the West" award, and the 2007 Poets Prize, among others.  Mr. Turner served seven years in the US Army, including one year as an infantry team leader in Iraq. Prior to that, he was deployed to Bosnia-Herzegovina 1999-2000.  His poetry has been published in Poetry Daily and The Georgia Review, as well as in the Voices in Wartime Anthology published in conjunction with the feature-length documentary film of the same name. In the Geisler Reading Room at 7:30 pm, open to the public.

April 19 Central College presents Blue Vocal and Instrumental Combo

Listen to Blue Vocal and Instrumental Combo, directed by Gabriel Espinosa in the Cox Snow Recital Hall at 8 pm. Open to the public.

April 19-20 Missoula Children's Theatre production "Beauty Lou and the Country Beast"

April 20 Lake Red Rock presents Bird Banding

Join Nelson Hoskins, area birdwatcher and licensed bird bander, to experience what the science of bird banding is all about!  Mist nets will be set up around the Red Rock Visitor Center to capture small birds which will then be fitted with numbered leg bands to track their movements (if recaptured at some point in the future). Come check out the thrill of seeing live birds "in hand" as they are banded for future research! The activity is free of charge, and no reservations are needed.  Come anytime during the three-hour activity (7-10 am) to experience the action!  For more information, contact the Corps of Engineers office at (641) 828-7522 or (641) 628-8690.

April 20 Drive One 4 Your School Fundraising Event

Raise money for your school by driving a new car! $20 donation to Pella or Pella Christian Schools for test driving a new Ford or Lincoln, $5 donation for wearing school colors to the event. April 20 Central College presents Percussion Extravaganza

Enjoy the sounds of the Flying Pans Steel Band and the Percussion Ensemble, Stan Dahl directing. Douwstra Auditorium at 7:30 pm.

April 21 New Hope Community Church presents The Shepherd's Staff concert

The Shepherd's Staff will present a concert held at New Hope Community Church, 1301 Washington Street, Pella at 6 pm. A coffee time will be served following the concert. Proceeds will be used for new and updated sound equipment at the church.
