Historic Preservation Committee

During last week’s regular meeting, the Pella City Council approved an ad hoc Historic Preservation Committee.

At the February 18, 2014 City Council meeting, the Pella Historic Trust presented a proposal for consideration of the establishment of a historic preservation district for Pella. The proposed historic district would encompass the areas from West 1st Street to Main Street and from Union Street to Independence Street. Since presently there is no historic preservation ordinance in the City Code, the establishment of this historic district would necessitate the establishment of a historic preservation commission along with historic overlay district zoning.

In order for Council to make a decision on whether or not to establish a historic district, draft historic preservation ordinances need to be created. Therefore, Mayor Jim Mueller appointed an ad hoc preservation committee that would formulate historic preservation ordinances for Council’s consideration.

The following individuals are being recommended and have agreed to serve on the ad hoc Historic Preservation committee:

-Jim Mansueto

-Rhonda Kermode

-Derek Bradfield

-Patsy Cody

-Ann Visser

-Bruce Schiebout
