Best of the Red Rock Area voting now open

Marion County —

The Marion County Development Commission (MCDC) has launched the “Best of the Red Rock Area” contest online at www.redrockarea.com.  The contest will run from now until November 1, 2013.  Winners in each of 40 categories plus 4 top 10 areas will be announced in January.  The categories feature food, shopping, activities, community, events and places.  Businesses are encouraged to go to http://www.redrockarea.com/bestofredrock/media/ to download a logo which can be used in social media and websites to directly link to the ballot.  The purpose of the contest is to honor local entities that are providing quality hospitality for our residents and visitors.

To vote, simply go to http://www.redrockarea.com and click on the “Vote” link.  Each email address will be able to vote once during the contest and individuals must complete at least half the ballot categories to have your vote count.  There is also a feature at the bottom of the ballot to send additional suggestions for each of the categories’ potential winners.

“We are excited to be able to bring back this popular contest, stated MCDC Executive Director, Carla Eysink.  It is a great way to encourage hospitality and excellence.  New technology has solved the challenges we had before with counting ballots.  Everyone is encouraged to vote and submit ideas for nominees in each category.  We know there are more potential nominees than are listed, but we need your ideas of who is the best”

According to Roger Brooks, Destination Development International, 86 percent of all visitor spending outside of lodging is spent in downtown areas for shopping, dining and entertainment.  The contest winners will be featured on the www.redrockarea.com site for visitors, new residents and businesses to using in making choices for where to go.
