September 13 Pella Sports Park Groundbreaking Ceremony

Come to Fields For Our Future's Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Pella Sports Park Complex from 9-10am. The event will be held at the new park location adjacent to the old bowling alley on the east end of Old HWY 163 (signs will be posted). Attendees are requested to arrive around 8:45am. The ceremony will begin at 9 with brief comments from state and local representatives including Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds. Comments will conclude by 9:30 am and will be followed by groundbreaking photos. Representatives from Fields For Our Future, Inc. and other involved parties will be available for discussion after the ceremony. Refreshments will be available before and after the speaking session.

September 13 Pella Chamber Golf Outing

Grab your foursome and head out to Bos Landen for the annual Pella Chamber Golf Outing! $80 per person includes entries for prizes, cart fees, etc. At least one player must be a Chamber member employee. Registration begins at 11:30 with tee off at 12:30. Please RSVP to or call 641-628-2626.


September 13 Tassel Ridge Winery presents Wine and Burger Night

It's off to the apple barn! Tonight's burger is a Chicken Apple Burger topped with Granny Smith Apple Slices and served on a Toasted Whole Wheat Bun with a side of Coleslaw and a glass of your favorite Tassel Ridge wine (we recommend Tassel Ridge Iowa Brianna). For dessert, cool off with Chocolaterie Stam's refreshing Wine Gelato made with a specially selected Tassel Ridge wine. From 5:30-7pm with burgers served until 7. September 13 Lake Red Rock presents Monarch Butterfly Tagging Program

Join the Monarch Watch volunteer effort!  We'll attempt to capture and tag some monarch butterflies as they pass through the Red Rock area during their fall migration.  Data from tagged butterflies may be used to help researchers track their journey to Mexico.  We'll be walking through a tallgrass prairie during this activity - Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes.  For more information, contact the Corp of Engineers office at (641) 828-7522 or (641) 628-8690. September 14 Kids Camp by Total Outdoorsmen

Come enjoy God's creation with us as we learn together about being good stewards of his work! Featuring live wildlife from Pella Wildlife Company, crafts and prizes. At Federated Fellowship Church from 1-3 pm. Children must be accompanied by an adult. Be sure to bring your camera!

September 14 Pella Christian High School Open House

Join Pella Christian High School in celebration of their debt-free campus goal with refreshments, a presentation and a tour of the new facilities! Open house is from 9am-11:30am, with a presentation at 10:30 am at Pella Christian High School, 300 Eagle Lane. Open to the public.

September 14 Families First presents Book Bash

Join Families First of Pella at the Pella Public Library, 10-11:30 am, for a morning filled with crafts, activities and information for parents. The first 75 families with a child age 0-5 will receive a free copy of the book "Little Critter Colors" by Mercer Mayer!

September 14 De Bloemen Hof presents Colorful Mixed Container Combinations Autumn Workshop

Join us for a gardener's therapy session and spruce up our summer planters with autumn's wonderful colors. Bring your pots with you and we'll help you create a masterpiece. September 15 Tassel Ridge Winery presents Cooking Italiano

As the weather starts to cool, pasta dishes are a good way to warm the dinner table. Chef Heather will show you how to make sauces that will dress up pasta from spaghetti to rotini! From 1-3 pm. September 17 "Parenting with Love and Logic" Class Begins

Meet and eat begins at the Pella Pizza Ranch from 12-1 pm each Tuesday for those who would like to learn more about "Parenting with Love and Logic". Lunch and class are free (Provided by a grant from Empowerment of Marion County) and free childcare is available in the nursery at Second Reformed Church (Please register so we have enough staff). September 17 Central College Lifelong Learning "RED" Launch Party

Learning is a lifelong journey. The Central RED Society is all about lifelong learning! Check out this brand new community of learners who want to try new experiences, make new friends and learn new skills. Lots of great activities and health screenings will be available, including consultations with health partners, glucose screenings, blood pressure checks, screenings with physical therapy, financial aid information and more! September 19-21 Pella Historical Society & Museum's Fall Festival

Join the Historical Society for their "Appel Pluk" Fall Festival! Thursday will feature wine, cheese, and chocolate from Van Veen Chocolates available for purchase while enjoying live music and Vermeer Mill tours from 5-8 pm. Friday's festivities from 10am-4pm will be focused on local schools, with Dutch Artisan Demonstrations, tours and food available. Saturday's events will feature an apple-themed bake off, Dutch artisan demonstrations, lunch and sweet treats for sale, awards and auctions. Each day will feature apple races, bobbing for apples, and the Pella Garden Club's "Appel Pluk" themed display. Admission each day is $2 for individuals or $5 for families (free for Museum members). If you would like to enter the bake off, please bring your apple-themed item to the Windmill by 9 am Saturday morning.

September 19 Chamber Quarterly Membership Breakfast: Affordable Care Act

The Affordable Healthcare Act was signed into law in 2010. Brian Gillette, Chief Operating Officer with Group Benefits, Ltd., will joining us to help navigate through the changes, what you need to know as an employer, and answer questions about group policies. September 19 Young Professionals of Pella's Winery Event

Join with other YP of Pella members as we head out to Tassel Ridge Winery from 7-9 pm- There will be a little something for everyone! Learn about wine and cheese pairings, take a tour of the winery, or if wine isn't your thing, have fun exploring other goodies in the gift shop or playing a yard game. Come prepared for a fun-filled evening! Free, anyone in their 20's and 30's is welcome to attend. Tassel Ridge Winery is located just off Highway 163 at 1681 220th Street, Leighton.

September 20 Team Registration Due for Adult Volleyball

The Pella Community Services Department is taking team registrations for their adult volleyball leagues. Women, games on Mondays, and Co-ed, games on Thursdays, will begin play the first week of October. A minimum of 6 teams with a maximum of 12 teams per league. Registration fees will be determined by the number of teams that register. September 20 Tassel Ridge Winery's Wine & Tapas Night

Chef Heather spent almost two weeks in Spain in June, and she came back with some great Tapas recipes! Come enjoy a glass of your favorite Tassel Ridge wine as you experience the flavors of Tapas and a "Taste of Spain!" Come for wine tasting at 6 pm, dinner seating at 6:30. September 21-22 Dirty Wooden Shoe Cyclocross Race

Cyclocross is a unique discipline of bicycle racing that requires riders to traverse a short course featuring a variety of terrain including pavement, grass, steep hills and obstacles. The fifth annual Dirty Wooden Shoe cyclocross race will be held at South Overlook Park near Lake Red Rock, with races beginning at 10 am for the masters category racers and 2:30 pm for junior racers on both Saturday and Sunday, and will showcase nearly 100 riders. September 21 JUMP Run/Walk
