Come to Fields For Our Future's Ground Breaking Ceremony for the Pella Sports Park Complex from 9-10am. The event will be held at the new park location adjacent to the old bowling alley on the east end of Old HWY 163 (signs will be posted). Attendees are requested to arrive around 8:45am. The ceremony will begin at 9 with brief comments from state and local representatives including Lieutenant Governor Kim Reynolds. Comments will conclude by 9:30 am and will be followed by groundbreaking photos. Representatives from Fields For Our Future, Inc. and other involved parties will be available for discussion after the ceremony. Refreshments will be available before and after the speaking session.

September 13 Lake Red Rock presents Monarch Butterfly Tagging Program
Join the Monarch Watch volunteer effort! We'll attempt to capture and tag some monarch butterflies as they pass through the Red Rock area during their fall migration. Data from tagged butterflies may be used to help researchers track their journey to Mexico. We'll be walking through a tallgrass prairie during this activity - Please wear long pants and closed-toe shoes. Join the Historical Society for their "Appel Pluk" Fall Festival! Thursday will feature wine, cheese, and chocolate from Van Veen Chocolates available for purchase while enjoying live music and Vermeer Mill tours from 5-8 pm. Friday's festivities from 10am-4pm will be focused on local schools, with Dutch Artisan Demonstrations, tours and food available. September 21-22 Dirty Wooden Shoe Cyclocross Race
Cyclocross is a unique discipline of bicycle racing that requires riders to traverse a short course featuring a variety of terrain including pavement, grass, steep hills and obstacles. The fifth annual Dirty Wooden Shoe cyclocross race will be held at South Overlook Park near Lake Red Rock, with races beginning at 10 am for the masters category racers and 2:30 pm for junior racers on both Saturday and Sunday, and will showcase nearly 100 riders.
