A local professional school counselor has been nominated as a finalist for an annual statewide award.
Dan Van Kooten, guidance counselor at Pella Christian High School, is one of six finalists for the 2013 High School Counselor of the Year award, presented by the Iowa Association for College Admission Counseling (Iowa ACAC).
The winner of the honor will be announced at the Iowa Dakota ACAC Spring Conference in Sioux City, May 19-21. Iowa ACAC members nominate secondary counselors each year to recognize those who go above and beyond in providing transition services to their students in the college admission process.
