Tulip Garden Restaurant is latest addition to Pella cuisine

Pella — As the newest addition to local Pella cuisine, the Tulip Garden Restaurant provides customers with a variety of traditional and ethnic food. Located at 313 East Oskaloosa Street, near Hy-Vee and McDonald's, the much anticipated opening has been a highlight for local diners.

According to Ali Sengul, co-owner of the Tulip Garden, the restaurant was designed to a feminist style, with hushed yellow curtains hanging from the windows and wooden paneling lining the walls to give the restaurant a more upscale appeal. Sengul, who has 17 years in the restaurant business since first moving to the US from Turkey, worked his way up from busboy to owner. He knows the ins-and-outs of how to run a successful restaurant, and with the assistance of the other owner, Fikret Bayram, he hopes to see a constant stream of business coming through the door.

"We created this restaurant to the same style as the other restaurants my partner has opened in other places in Iowa, like Oskaloosa. We no longer have an association with these restaurants, but we were designed very similar. In choosing to come to Pella, my family and I really enjoyed the area, and we thought it wouldn't be too hard to get a restaurant off the ground," said Sengul.

With a menu that includes a mix of culture, from traditional American meals to Italian and Mexican specialties, the Tulip Garden embodies an eclectic array of choices. While Sengul and his wife, Nesli, prefer the fish, he believes the biggest draw to the restaurant is the prices.

"Compared to other places around the area, our restaurant prices run cheap. Not only do we have a large menu, but we have a menu that doesn't cost nearly as much as it would seem for the choices we offer," said Sengul.

According to Sengul, since opening day barely a month ago, business has not been slow. Opened 5 a.m. to 9 p.m. everyday except for Sunday, which is open 6 a.m. to 9 p.m., the Tulip Garden is quickly becoming the go-to spot for breakfast, lunch and dinner. With everyday specials and homemade meals, the Tulip Garden is an up-and-coming dining establishment in Pella.
