January 30 High School Bandfest

Area band students perform a concert after a day of rehearsing. At 7 pm, Central College's Douwstra Auditorium.





January 30 Central College presents Writer's Reading with Walter Cannon

Walter Cannon will read from his new book of poems, "The Possible World". Dr. Cannon has participated in poetry workshops at Squaw Valley and Sligo, Ireland in connection with the Yeats School, where he has been an invited lecturer. He also has been the recipient of grants from the Iowa Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Humanities. His poems, essays and reviews have appeared in a variety of journals and books including Nimrod, Water-Stone Review, the Blue Earth Review, Mid-America Poetry Review, the Upstart Crow and Cahiers Elisabethains. At 7:30 pm, Geisler Reading Room.



   

January 30 Optimal Health Team Challenge Educational Event by PRC

Celebrate Valentine's Month with a Wine & Chocolate Pairing at Tassel Ridge Winery. Tassel Ridge Winery has paired four Tassel Ridge wines with four different chocolates from Chocolaterie Stam. Taste all four and find your favorite(s)! From 10 am to 6 pm Saturday and 12 to 6 pm Sunday. Cost is $10 per person, plus tax-Harvest Club Member & 1 Guest: $5 per person, plus tax.





February 1 Van Wijk Winery presents Classic Movie "Groundhog Day"

February 2 Union Street Players Auditions for " Ham Buns & Potato Salad"

Auditions for Union Street Players' "Ham Buns & Potato Salad" will be held February 2, 6pm - 8pm, and February 8, 10am - noon, at the Pella Community Center. Roles are available for 5 adult men, 4 adult women and one girl 11-12 years old. "Ham Buns & Potato Salad" is a full length comedy in two acts written by local playwright, Tom Vander Well. Direction by Ann Wilkinson. No experience is necessary. No roles are pre-cast. You may read a full description of the show or download a perusal script in PDF form at www.unionstreetplayers.com. February 3 Cardio Kickboxing Class Begins at PRC

So you want to train like a fighter? Come take our trainer-led cardio kickboxing class! This class will teach you the proper techniques of punching and kicking with 9 rounds of circuit training in 30-40 minutes. The first class begins February 3, and classes will be offered Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8:30 am, noon, and 5:30 pm. Gloves are required and are available for purchase. February 4 Pella Area Quilter's Guild

Pella Area Quilter's Guild will feature Shelly Burge of Lincoln, Nebraska. Shelly has been making quilts for 40 years and teaching for 30. She will share her award winning miniature quilts as well as vintage doll quilts and other special small quilts. The Guild welcomes guests and new members of all abilities and interests. At 7 pm, Third Reformed Church Room 103.

February 6-20 Beginning Genealogy Workshops

If you are interested in genealogy research, but don't know where to start, here's your chance. Workshops for absolute beginners will be offered on Thursday evenings at 7 pm in February. It is preferred, but not required, that you bring your own laptop or other wireless device. Free and open to the public ages 12 and older. Questions?
