Marion County Master Gardeners Donate to Habitat for Humanity

Pella — Marion County Master Gardeners donated nearly $500 to Habitat for Humanity recently.  The money was raised a last Saturday’s Plant Sale at Pella’s Farmers’ Market.  More than 20 Master Gardeners donated hundreds of plants dug from their own gardens to raise the funds.  The donation was presented to Alyssa Vande Voort, Community Outreach Director for Habitat for Humanity of Marion County, Inc.

Later this summer the Master Gardeners will host their 2013 Garden Tour.  The tour will be Saturday, July 20 from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. and Sunday, July 21 from 1-5 p.m.  Four local gardens will be open to the general public to tour.  Fairy gardens will be this year’s theme.

This year the gardens are all in the Pleasantville area.  The gardens may be visited in any order after (a suggested) $10 donation is given to Marion County Habitat for Humanity at the Pleasantville City Park.

Upon making the donation at the park anytime on Saturday, July 20th from 10 am until 4 pm or on Sunday from 1 to 5 pm, the other gardens will be open.  The tour is self guided; the Tour Map is good all weekend.  No dogs, please.  Children under 12 are admitted free.

Gardens on tour are Bobbi’s Garden (perennials and garden art) at 510 W. Pleasant St., Ruby’s Garden (perennials and day lilies) at 103 N. Sunset Drive, Tami’s Garden (perennials, shade gardens, and raised vegetable gardens) at 703 W. Jones St., and Nancy’s Garden (mixed perennials, annuals, grasses, trees; also a covered bridge) at 1019 43rd Ave.  All gardens have a Pleasantville address.
